RICC to host Britain in Bloom

RICC to host Britain in Bloom

More than 500 Britain in Bloom finalists will be descending on Torquay's Riviera International Conference Centre next year for the national award ceremony.

RICC has been chosen as the ideal venue for the event after Torbay Council put in a bid for the Bay to the Royal Horticulture Society which administers the competition.

Local organiser, Richard Taylor from Torbay Council, said: "There will be delegates from villages, towns and cities from all over the British Isles attending, all keen to find out what award they have won.

"On behalf of Torbay Council I showed an interest in Torbay hosting it about 18 months ago. I was hoping Torbay could host it in 2008 however Chester had already signed a contract for this year.

"I was offered the event for 2009 which I accepted."

Barry Cole, managing director of RICC said he was delighted the RICC had been chosen to host the event and promised to make sure the centre's grounds are in tip top condition for the ceremony.

He said: "We always do make an effort to ensure our flower beds are kept looking good but we'll have to pull out all the stops to make certain all our plants are at their best for the event as we don't want the national judges finding any fault!"

As well as gold, silver and bronze award winners, there will also be national judges and VIPs from the RHS and the council.

It will take place on September 24 2009.
