NAPO love to be beside the sea!

NAPO love to be beside the sea!

An early morning swim was arranged for delegates attending the recent NAPO conference at Torquay's Riviera International Conference Centre (RICC). The aim was to get 100 people into the sea on the organisation's 100th birthday and they pulled it off.

Despite the wet and cold October morning delegates got up early, stripped off and gingerly took the plunge into the sea from Torre Abbey Sands!

Kath Falcon, Conference Organiser for Napo said,
"The weather was a bit wet but that was beyond any of our control and it didn't seem to dampen people's spirits"!

Napo is a trade union, professional association and campaigning group working with probation and family court staff. Their conference is held annually and attracts in excess of 700 delegates. Napo first came to the RICC, Torquay for their annual conference in 2009 and this was their second visit to the resort.

Kath Falcon said, "The venue is just perfect for our requirements so we were particularly pleased to be back again in this Napo's Centenary year. We wanted to push the boat out with some special evening events including a reception for all our 700 delegates and guests on the Thursday. It was a new departure for us, getting everyone together for a meal, and we couldn't believe how well the RICC catered for the event. Our members work hard at conference but they also party hard. Despite this they were well up for a charity fundraising swim early on the Friday morning: the centenary challenge, 100 people in the sea at Napo's 100th AGM. Well done everyone and well done RICC for a great centenary conference".

Nicky Harding, Conference Torquay Manager said:
"It is always exciting to hear of unusual initiatives that organisations arrange for their conferences whilst in Torquay, especially those that only a destination like ours can offer!"
